Back        There are Some Things God Can't Do

To my brothers and sisters in Chirst
Every so often I will hear a fellow child of God say that God can do all things. It happened the other day and I leaned to my brother and said some words that sounded, well, quite heretical to him, I said, "Brother, there are some things God just can't do and to say otherwise is heretical."  Ironically, my statement sounded heretical to him.

First let's turn to one of the most awesome scriptures I have ever read. Genesis 19:22. The context is one in which Lot was screwing around babbling and pleading with the Angel of the Lord.  And although it was clear that the Lord was going to demolish and destroy Sodom and Gomorrah for its sin, he, could not until Lot escaped from harm.  "Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannnot do any thing till thou be come thither."
Here we have a picture of our almighty and all powerful God who couldn't rain fire and brimstone on Sodom until his child came out. His own words, "...I cannot..."  It's awesome to be a child of God and here's why.  God 'Can't ever leave or forsake you'.  It's not because of your character but because of God's character.  He did the same for Noah.  And he will never leave or forsake his children EVER when judgement comes.
Although the following list is by no means exhaustive, it serves as a useful list of verses where, because of God's character, there are some things he just can't do.  Praise the Lord we have such a God.

1. God can't ever leave or forsake his own. Many references on this but Heb 13:5 would suffice. "I will never leave thee or forsake thee."
2.  God can't lie. I don't intend to dip into God's character in this devotion but suffice it to say he can't lie as Titus 1:2 sez, "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began."
3. God's Character Can't Change. Some call this his immutability.  James 1:17 sez, "...the Father of lights [heavenly things], with whom is no variableness [change]..."

And of course, he can't sin since he is righteous and holy.  I Peter sez regarding the Son in 1Peter2:22 "Who [Christ] did no sin..."   Anyone who sez Christ sinned is a liar and speaks against his God.
This list is by no means exhaustive.

And the list goes on.  How awesome is it to have a God that won't and can't leave you, his child, behind but instead will protect you like he did his child Lot.

If you're not a child of God, then it may be that God is drawing you to him. Honestly, I haven't a clue as to why you would be reading this otherwise. If it makes no sense to you then hit your back button, if however, God is speaking to your heart then I will simply say, repent and believe.  Repent from your wickedness and believe in the Son of God. You don't have to jump through any hoops, you don't have to do anything to make up for your past sins. The fact is there is nothing you can do to atone for your own sins. NOTHING. You need a savior, you need atonement for the sins.  As the thief on the cross cried out to Jesus , "LOrd..."   Jesus received him right there and said "Verily I say unto you, today you shalt be with me in paradise." Luke 23:43.  Nothing else could the thief do, he was on a cross, he couldn't get baptized [being baptized never saved anyone], couldn't do good works...all he was going to do was die.

Receive him, the Lord and you will receive power.  The Word of God says, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, to them that believe on his name."  And as you walk in newness of life, do not be conformed to this world: but be ye  transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

To those who have ears to hear such things,
Amen
